Facial Rejuvenation: BOTOX® vs Dysport®

Ready for Facial Rejuvenation

So you’re contemplating facial rejuvenation with BOTOX® or Dysport®. Perhaps your 25th high school reunion is right around the corner, and you want to look “fresh” to your former classmates. Or maybe you’re simply tired of looking in the mirror and seeing crow’s feet. Either way, the differences between BOTOX and Dysport are subtle, but you’ll want to know why before you have any work done.

We get plenty of questions every day about the differences between BOTOX and Dysport, so we wanted to educate you – and set the record straight!

How do BOTOX and Dysport injections work?

To tell you the difference between BOTOX and Dysport, it’s first important that you understand the purpose of each injectable.

  1. They are both neurotoxins, which means that the injected muscles won’t contract, creating that nice, smooth look patients want.
  2. BOTOX and Dysport are both forms of botulinum toxin and are allowed to be used in small amounts via injection.

Now that we’ve covered some basics of facial rejuvenation, let’s go into a little more detail about BOTOX and Dysport.

Which lasts longer?

While Dysport usually lasts between three to four months, BOTOX is known to last four to six months. This will vary by patient. Your dermatology provider can elaborate on the difference between the two.

Is BOTOX more expensive?

Quite honestly, the price per unit is fairly close between BOTOX and Dysport. Where you might see a financial difference is the number of units you will need. Your dermatologist will walk you through the best way to achieve your desired results.

Is Dysport more natural looking?

"More natural looking” is such a subjective phrase. Think of it this way instead. Because you’re using BOTOX to treat different areas than you would use Dysport and vice versa, it’s almost impossible to determine that one looks better than the other. Remember, these neurotoxin injections produce subtle results, so it’s a patient-by-patient preference.

BOTOX and Dysport make us more confident about our appearance and help us appear rested and beautiful. Both will give you a delightful result; the main difference is the surface area where you’re trying to soften your appearance.
