What are cosmetic Laser Treatments?
A cosmetic laser treatment is a unique type of cosmetic procedure that involves the use of laser energy and technology to improve the skin. At Cumberland Skin, we use the GentleMax Pro® laser, which is exceptional at gently removing unwanted hair, and the Vbeam® Perfecta laser, which effectively treats facial redness or pigmentation to achieve a more even skin tone.
Laser Treatment FAQ
When undergoing a laser treatment, the physician directs short, concentrated beams of energy at the skin to precisely target a specific area or part of the skin, such as melanin (pigment that gives the skin its color) or red broken capillaries.
This process is called “selective photothermolysis.” Through this process, the targeted skin issue is effectively addressed and treated.
Several skin issues can be treated with our cosmetic laser treatments. This includes:
- Signs of aging (wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, dull skin, and sagging skin)
- Unwanted hair
- Skin discoloration (melasma, brown spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation)
- Leg veins (better known as spider veins)
- Surgical and traumatic scars
- Stretch marks
- Acne scars
- Unsightly blood vessels
If you’re struggling with any of the common skin issues mentioned above, schedule a laser consultation to find out more about how you can treat it with an effective laser treatment! The experienced dermatologists at Cumberland Skin are happy to help you improve your skin.
Yes, there are two main types of lasers used in cosmetic dermatology: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers focus on improving the top layer of skin, while non-ablative lasers target the deeper layers of skin, passing safely through the outer layer to penetrate the tissue lying beneath.
There are several different types of lasers that either fall under the ablative or non-ablative category. This includes CO2 lasers, fractional lasers, IPLs (intense pulsed lasers), PDL (pulsed-dye lasers), Alexandrite laser, Nd:YAG laser, infrared light lasers, and many others.
At Cumberland Skin, we use the GentleMax Pro® laser and Vbeam® laser. The GentleMax Pro® laser utilizes a dual platform laser using a 755nm Alexandrite laser and a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser. The Vbeam® laser is a pulsed-dye laser.
The cosmetic laser treatments are performed by our experienced board-certified dermatologists or fully-trained nurses. Those who perform our laser procedures are extensively trained to administer the laser safely and effectively.
