How Cumberland Skin is Caring for Patients

Cumberland Skin has now passed the CDC criteria for a Phase 1 reopening. In accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines, as well as guidelines from medical boards, we are beginning to see more patients in-person. We’d like to share the steps that our practice is taking to keep patients, providers, and support staff safe and healthy.

We will continue to monitor the CDC guidelines vigilantly and rely upon the expert judgment of our leading physicians as we determine how to expand our services in a phased approach. While we’re eager to see our patients in-person again, we’re also pleased to continue offering telemedicine visits for patients who don’t want or need to be seen in-person.

In-person appointments

Patient health and safety is our number one priority. To meet patient needs while minimizing the risk of spreading infectious diseases, our practice has implemented the following measures:

  • Performing daily temperature checks for all staff members and patients
  • Asking screening questions for all patients, staff, and other persons that enter the office
  • Rescheduling patients who exhibit symptoms of illness or who have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Ensuring that ill or exposed staff follow appropriate self-quarantine measures
  • Instituting social distancing protocols, such as limiting provider schedules and reducing waiting room capacity; in some office settings, patients may wait in their vehicles after check-in until an exam room is ready to reduce their exposure risk
  • Reconfiguring staff work shifts and breaks
  • Thoroughly sanitizing our facility in accordance with the CDC guidelines
  • Offering Telehealth appointments
  • Limiting visitors to those escorts who are required for special assistance

 

On the day of your appointment, front desk personnel will screen all patients and visitors. Staff will wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including face masks and eye protection. We also ask that all patients and visitors wear a face covering while in our office.

We ask that you please limit the number of visitors accompanying you and that, when possible, additional visitors remain in their vehicle during your appointment. Social distancing measures and reducing common use items, such as pens, papers, and magazines, reduce the number of ways that the virus can spread. When possible, our staff will utilize verbal authorization measures for signatures and clinical consents.

To ensure that our facility is clean and safe, we are thoroughly sanitizing waiting areas and high-touch surfaces multiple times each day. Our exam rooms are cleaned between each appointment, following the most current COVID-19 guidelines from the CDC. We have also provided hand sanitizer, paper tissues, and trash cans for our patients and visitors.

 

Telehealth appointments

If your visit does not warrant an in-person appointment and you prefer to be seen by a physician from the comfort of your own home, you can take advantage of our telehealth appointments. Just as with an in-person visit, telehealth appointments are covered by most insurance providers.

Scheduling your telehealth appointment follows the same procedure as an in-person appointment. For your telehealth appointment, try to sit in an area with bright, natural light. Dermatologists rely upon seeing your skin to make an accurate diagnosis, so adequate lighting is essential. Also, your internet connection should be stable, so stay close to your router and, if necessary, limit the number of internet users during your appointment.

You’ll receive a text message or email with the appointment link when the provider is ready to see you. Simply click the link and allow the telehealth portal permission to access both your microphone and camera so that you can see and hear the doctor. Over a video call, you’ll be able to receive the same excellent care that you’re used to receiving in-person at Cumberland Skin.
